"My journey from a prison cell to a doctoral hood is not a story about myself; it is a testament to the untapped potential that exists within our most overlooked communities and a call to reconstruct the systems that confine it."
The Foundation: Forged in New York
Born in the Bronx and raised between the Patterson Projects and Spanish Harlem's Washington Projects, my early life served as a masterclass in resilience. Watching my mother, a single parent, navigate severe economic hardship instilled in me an unwavering resolve to overcome circumstantial boundaries. This foundation, built amidst the vibrant yet challenging landscape of New York City, provided my earliest lessons in empathy and the profound complexities of the human experience.
The Detour: Adversity and Incarceration
Adolescence brought a relocation to Massachusetts and a new set of adversities. Lacking stable guidance, I sought direction on the streets a trajectory that ultimately led me back to New York and resulted in a 3.5-year sentence in a state correctional facility. However, this period was not an end; it was a profound detour. Incarceration became the crucible in which my life's purpose was forged. It stripped away everything but the absolute will to rebuild, granting me the clarity to recognize the systemic barriers that continuously trap marginalized populations.
The Turning Point: Education as Liberation
The catalyst for transformation arrived through an unexpected opportunity. Through a prison education program, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management while incarcerated. This was far more than an academic achievement; it was an act of liberation. It radically shifted my perspective, igniting a deep passion to understand the very systems I was navigating. This milestone cemented my commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) as the essential mechanisms for unlocking human potential.
The Ascent: From Scholar to Architect of Change
Following my release, I accelerated my academic pursuits with a relentless, strategic focus. I earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Strategic Leadership from the University of the Southwest, grounding my passion in the practical frameworks of finance and organizational management. Recognizing the need for a multidisciplinary toolkit, I expanded my expertise with a Master of Science in Real Estate (MSRE) from Fordham University to understand the impact of community development and campus infrastructure on equity. To master the complex regulatory policies that govern our institutions, I am currently completing a Master of Legal Studies (MLS) in Higher Education and NCAA Compliance at Drexel University.
This rigorous trajectory culminated on April 12, 2025, when I successfully defended my dissertation and earned a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Organizational Leadership from Liberty University. This academic architecture was not built simply to collect credentials; it was purposefully designed to deconstruct my lived experiences and synthesize them with advanced scholarly research to engineer systemic change.
The Impact: The Cultural Synergy Framework™
The ultimate result of this journey is the Cultural Synergy Framework™, a proprietary, data-driven methodology that transforms institutions by leveraging diverse perspectives for collective achievement. Codified in my book, Reconstructing Student Affairs with The Cultural Synergy Framework™, this model is validated by industry-leading credentials, including my certifications as a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt (LSSMBB) and a Change Management Specialist (CMS), ensuring my strategies are rooted in operational excellence.
Today, as Dr. Class, I am not defined by my past but empowered by it. Through my leadership at my nonprofit, Self3mpowerment, my founding of Educated Reality, and my ongoing teaching and advocacy, my story serves as a living case study in the transformative power of empathy and strategic leadership. I remain steadfast in my mission: to build a more equitable world where every individual, regardless of their starting point, possesses a substantive pathway to redefine their potential and leave a lasting impact.
